Does Google penalize AI-generated website content?
Google does not treat AI assistance as an automatic violation. Content can fail when automation produces inaccurate, repetitive, unoriginal, or search-first pages at scale. Human accountability, expertise, editing, and real value remain essential.
Use AI as leverage, not authority
AI can help organize research, explore questions, compare structures, and produce early drafts. It should not invent experience, customers, statistics, or results. A responsible publisher verifies every factual claim and adds knowledge that could not be generated from generic summaries alone.
The scaled-content trap
Twenty useful pages can form a strong library. Two hundred shallow pages that restate the same answer create risk. The test is whether each URL satisfies a distinct visitor need and would still deserve to exist if search engines sent no traffic.
Create an editorial standard
Assign ownership, sources, review dates, fact checks, style rules, and update triggers. Be transparent when automation meaningfully affects content creation. Quality control must become stronger as production becomes faster.
Use a human review gate
Every page should have a named reviewer who checks facts, examples, claims, links, tone, duplication, and usefulness. Sensitive legal, financial, medical, or safety information requires appropriate expertise. Remove fabricated citations, imaginary experience, unsupported statistics, and confident language that hides uncertainty.
Run the same editorial standard whether the first draft came from a person or a model. Automation changes production speed. It does not transfer accountability.
Decide whether the page deserves to exist
Compare it with existing pages and current search results. Ask what original decision support, evidence, method, local knowledge, or first-hand experience it adds. If the honest answer is none, improve an existing page instead of publishing another URL.
Review performance and prune weak content. A smaller library of maintained, interconnected answers supports customers and search systems better than a large archive nobody trusts or owns.
Create an AI-assisted editorial workflow
Begin with a documented audience need and an accountable subject owner. Use AI for research organization, question discovery, outlining, comparison, and early drafting where it improves efficiency. Preserve source links and identify claims that require verification. Never ask a model to manufacture experience the business does not have.
A human reviewer should check accuracy, originality, usefulness, tone, legal or compliance risk, internal duplication, links, metadata, and the practical next step. Add first-hand evidence, examples, boundaries, and judgment. Remove generic filler that could appear on any competitor site.
After publication, monitor queries, engagement, feedback, conversions, and changes in the underlying subject. Update or retire pages that become inaccurate or fail to serve a distinct need. Fast production must include equally fast quality control.
- Who is accountable for the final claims?
- Which sources were checked directly?
- What first-hand value was added?
- Does another page already answer this need?
- What event will trigger an update?
A publication rule worth enforcing
No page should publish until a responsible person can defend its accuracy, purpose, and originality. The reviewer should be able to name the customer question, sources, added expertise, and intended action. If the page exists only because software made production cheap, it is not ready.
Project Giant uses automation to accelerate structure and review, then applies human judgment to the final experience. The standard is not whether AI touched the draft. The standard is whether the published page is accurate, distinctive, maintained, and genuinely useful to the person who trusted the search result.
Document the reviewer and review date for material claims. Accountability should remain visible after the drafting tool and original campaign are forgotten.
Put it to work
Where to go from here.
- Verify every factual claim
- Add experience and original judgment
- Delete pages that do not solve a distinct need
